The Blueberry Inn (5 Stars)

The front of the Inn
The Blueberry season in Mississippi ranges anywhere from May to August, depending on just where in the south the fruit is grown. Blueberries are packed with vitamins and antioxidants, and can made anything from a mean glass of Blueberry Lemonade to warm, fresh Blueberry Muffins.

I was lucky enough to attend the Blueberry Jubille in Poplarville, MS. It's held the second Saturday in June every year, and showcases blueberries from around the state.

The festival attracts a large crowd every year, eager to sample the wares of the nearly 200 vendors, see the different ways blueberries can be used in recipes, watch the live entertainment, and generally have a good time.

I was lucky enough to stay in the Blueberry Inn on S. Julia Street (temporarily renamed "Blueberry Avenue" for the day each year to commemorate the festival.

My room at The Blueberry Inn
Together, the combination of my experience at the Inn and the atmosphere around the Jubilee is one that I would highly recommend. If you're going to the festival, you owe it to yourself to stay at the Blueberry Inn.

I stayed in one of the rooms upstairs, which was beautifully decorated and home to a comfortable bed where I got a full night's rest.

The bathrooms were spacious and gorgeous, but guests do have to share their bathroom with one other neighbor, though none of this posed a problem for any of the six guests staying in the home that night.

The home's proprietors, the Sharps, were amazingly gracious and wonderful. Staying in their inn felt like coming home to my grandmother's house, where everything is waiting for you and you get the feeling you've been expected.

I woke up at 6:30 to a breakfast that can only be described as perfect. The freshly-made blueberry muffins were so tender and melted in my mouth. The egg and sausage casserole was perfectly cooked - a heavy dish, but perfect to keep me going throughout the festival. In addition, the diners and I had our pick of fresh blueberries (of course), fresh melons, fresh tomatoes, fruit salad, cherries, grapes, and a host of other delicacies - all included in the price of the stay.

The decor of the house itself was warm, sunny, bright and inviting. If you're lucky enough to book a room there during the Blueberry Jubilee, you'll have the luxury of walking out the front door right into the Jubilee itself. No worries about parking, and you'll have a cool place to rest your feet if the need arises.

All in all, I would give the Blueberry Inn 5 out of 5 stars. It's definitely worth the stay.
